Stigma affects real people. To fully understand how hurtful or harmful it is, you really need to have experienced it yourself or have the opportunity to hear the story of someone who has.

‘see me’ is in touch with a wide range of individuals who are willing and able to speak first hand to the media about their personal experiences of stigma, discrimination, recovery, suicide attempts, bereavement by suicide and mental ill-health in general.

These are real people who speak candidly about their personal perspective on the realities of living with, and recovering from, mental health problems in Scotland today. They are not mental health experts or professional, so they speak in layman’s terms that anyone can relate to.

Interviews can be arranged at short notice to meet media deadlines.  For further information about case study interviews please contact Alex Messis or Emily Moyes at Stripe Communications on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. "If we hide away and stay silent we are adding to the stigma, but if we take a chance, speak out, and tell our stories we can, and do, change attitudes; and when we change attitudes we stop others having the same experiences that we did." Jen (Tayside)

“‘see me’ is a very media savvy and media aware organisation.  Unlike charities and other organisations, they aren’t about raising money, more about putting a message across, so their relationship with the media is very good.”

We can also supply written testimony on request and will try to find someone who can help you to highlight your story.
