Closing date extended until 1st October 2010
‘see me’s Local Grants Scheme is awarding up to £5,000 to local groups in the Health Board areas of Lothian, Borders, Fife, Western Isles and Forth Valley who can come up with fresh, innovative and exciting ideas to tackle the stigma and discrimination associated with mental health. Now open for applications until Friday 1st October 2010.
The grant scheme aims to encourage local organisations to take a lead in changing public attitudes and behaviours towards people with mental health problems. Any type of project can be considered as long as it is led by people with experience of mental ill-health or those providing care and support.
An Equality Award of £5,000, will also be awarded to a successful community group, be it a youth group, after-school club, drama group or sports team, celebrating diversity whilst tackling the mental health and stigma issues faced by a particular group or groups of people.
Suzie Vestri, ‘see me’ Campaign Director, says: “see me’s vision is for a Scotland where all people with mental health problems are fully equal and included. This is your chance to make a real difference in your community.
“We’re looking for projects that aim to promote positive images of mental health through mediums such as sport and physical health activities or working with a local artist through creative arts, song, music drama and dance. We’re on the lookout for any initiatives that are new and innovative, celebrating diversity while sparking awareness of the stigma often associated with mental ill-health and proactively working to conquer it.”
Entries open on the 9th August and the closing date for submission is 1st October 2010.
